Elden Ring DLC Boss Order: Midra can be seen

Elden Ring‘s DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has proven controversial. Many players grew frustrated in the first week as they found the challenges and bosses too hard. However, a patch following the DLC’s release has changed things, making the game a little bit easier by boosting the power of Scadutree Fragments: the DLC’s main levelling mechanic.

While you still need Scadutree Fragments to beat the DLC’s bosses, you now have a bit more flexibility over where you can go and how you can progress through the game’s DLC. Below, we have a full breakdown of the suggested DLC boss order for Shadow of the Erdtree and how many Scadutree Fragment blessings you should have when attempting the boss.

Keep in mind that there are some light spoilers for the boss names, areas, and difficulty of those bosses and areas below.

‘Elden Ring’ DLC boss order

The best order to tackle the Elden Ring DLC bosses is:

  • Divine Beast Dancing Lion (Belurat) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 3 – 5
  • Rellana, Twin Moon Knight (Castle Ensis) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 6 – 8
  • Golden Hippopotamus (Shadow Keep) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 6 – 8
  • Putrescent Knight (Fissure Depths) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 7 – 9
  • Romina, Saint of the Bud (Church of the Bud, Ancient Ruins of Rauh) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 9 – 11
  • Commander Gaius (Scaduview) – Scautree Blessing level recommendation: 10-12
  • Messmer, The Impaler (Shadow Keep) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 10 – 12
  • Scadutree Avatar (Scadutree Base) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 11 – 13
  • Metyr, Mother of Fingers (Finger Birthing Grounds) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 11 – 13
  • Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (Midra’s Manse) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 12 – 15
  • Needle Knight Leda (Enir-llim) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 14+
  • Bayle The Dread (Jagged Peak) – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 14+
  • Promised Consort Radahn/Radahn, Consort Of Miquella – Scadutree Blessing level recommendation: 15+

Elden Ring‘s DLC is a little different to the base game as it is less linear, allowing you to explore more of the game before you even need to fight one boss. On top of that, the vast majority of the main bosses in the game are optional and can be ignored. However, you will want to defeat them, as they are good preparation for the mandatory bosses and allow you to explore additional areas across the Shadow Realm.

The first boss you will fight will likely either be the Divine Beast Dancing Lion or Rellana, Twin Moon Knight. Both of these bosses are high-skill-check bosses that can cause you a lot of trouble. However, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion is slightly easier once you learn his attack animations and when to enter for a fight.

Rellana, on the other hand, is a huge hurdle for many players due to her endless combo strings and unusual attack timing and delays. While you can tackle her early on, you actually want to spend the majority of your time in the first and second thirds of the DLC exploring the game’s areas for Scadutree Blessings to power up. You can visit almost all of the locations by exploring, and only a few are actually locked behind bosses. They are much later in the game anyway.

Scadu Atlus, the Shadow Keep, Ancient Ruins of Rauh, Cerulean Coast, Jagged Peak, Fissure Depths, and Abyssal Woods can all be accessed before you have even beaten a single boss.

That is why you have to explore to succeed in the DLC, as there are so many Scadutree Fragments in these areas that you can easily miss early on. Slamming into a boss can work, but you will find yourself frustrated far more than you will find yourself triumphant. Once you have explored most of these areas, return to Rellana and take her on.

You can then progress deeper into the DLC, into the Shadow Keep, and onwards towards the final few bosses in the game and the conclusion of the NPC questlines.
