Elden Ring DLC Boss Order: Messmer can be seen

Elden Ring was FromSoftware’s biggest mainstream hit when it launched in 2022. The company’s games had always been critically acclaimed and beloved by their dedicated fans, but its open-world offering was the first time it broke into a new audience. Thanks to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it’s getting a resurgence.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, sales of Elden Ring have shot up 467 per cent in June when compared to May, a jump of 19 places up the charts, landing it at number four, behind F1 24, Grand Theft Auto 5, and EA Sports FC. This will likely be due to the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which adds a huge new area to the game and many more bosses and items.

NME‘s review of Shadow of the Erdtree stated it “does not fuck around,” and claimed “there’s a lot more to love.” The DLC takes place in the Realm of Shadow, an area separate from the main game and with a different levelling system. Players can collect Scadutree Shards that increase the amoutn of damage they do and reduce the amount of damage they take. FromSoftwar even issued a patch that makes these boons stronger, hopefully helping more people to beat the fiendishly difficult expansion.

For people who aren’t a fan of the crushing difficulty of FromSoftware games, there are fortunately many more games that came out this year that are also excellent to playChildren of the Sun is a stylish new indie, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a great, and easier, open-world RPG.

In other news, Xbox Game Pass is about to get more expensive and more confusing as it hikes the price of existing tiers for new customers and introduces a new standardtier that doesn’t come with day-one first-party games or cloud gaming features.
