Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree

FromSoftware has released a new update for Elden Ring following on from the release of the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion.

The 1.12.3 update went live yesterday (July 4) and has introduced some major changes to the world of Elden Ring.

Two of the most frustrating Shadow Of The Erdtree bosses have been switched up, with the starting position of both the Commander Gaius and the Golden Hippopotamus changed to give players a better chance of besting them the second time around.

“Changed the placement of the bosses in the re-fight against the Golden Hippopotamus and Commander Gaius bosses to be in the same position as in the first fight,” reads the patch notes.

However, the new update has also nerfed the Bloodfiend’s Arm by fixing a bug that meant the arcane scaling and status buildup of the weapon was higher than intended. Prior to the patch, players had been using the bug to destroy Shadow Of The Erdtree’s final boss in just 11 hits.

Elden Ring’s 1.12.3 update has also “fixed a bug that caused the lightning perfume bottle and frenzyflame perfume bottle weapons to deal double damage under certain circumstances,” nerfing another tactic for coming out top in boss fights.

The patch has also increased the intelligence scaling of the carian sorcery sword but slightly decreased the base damage, while the throwing ranges for both the smitchscript dagger and cirque have been extended.

PvP players will also find that the damage caused by the shearing vacuum effect of the “Swift Slash” skill has also been decreased.

The latest Elden Ring update also brings a number of bug fixes to the game, but many players are frustrated there’s still no fix for a number of performance issues with the game. The 1.12.3 patch notes blame “third party applications that control mouse behaviour” for unstable framerate on PC, while the same issue for PS5 users “may be improved by using the ‘Rebuild Database’ option from the device’s safe mode.”

“In the next patch they should make it run at 60fps correctly on PC and current gen consoles. Just an idea,” wrote one player.

Earlier this month, George R.R. Martin teased a potential adaptation of Elden Ring. “Oh, and about those rumours you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say,” he wrote in an over-the-top denial on his blog. “Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum.  What rumour?”

In other news, Nintendo boss Shuntaro Furukawa has said the company won’t use generative artificial intelligence in the creation of new games.
