Eli Roth’s 2005 cult classic horror film Hostel is being adapted for a TV series.
Per a Deadline Hollywood report, a TV series is in the works, even though a network or streaming platform have yet to be attached to the show. Eli Roth is due to return to direct and write for the upcoming series with Chris Briggs, who also co-wrote the 2005 film.
Deadline Hollywood also reports that the TV series will be an “elevated thriller with Roth’s trademark kills” and “a modern reinvention of the horror franchise”. While details remain scarce, Paul Giamatti has reportedly signed on to play a key role in the Hostel TV series.
2005’s Hostel centers around a group of American tourists who where convinced by a stranger to journey from Barcelona to Slovakia, where they are kidnapped by a secret and dastardly organization who lure and hold tourists captive for rich clients to torture and kill them for fun. It starred Jay Hernandez, Derek Richardson and Eyþór Guðjónsson, and was executive produced by Quentin Tarantino.
Hostel has spawned two sequels. 2007’s Hostel II saw Roth direct and write again, while 2011’s Hostel III was helmed by Scott Speigel.
Hostel is now the latest horror film franchise to be turned into a TV series. Last week, it was revealed that Bill Skarsgård, who starred as Pennywise the Clown in the It film franchise, will be reprising his role for HBO Max’s upcoming prequel series, Welcome To Derry.
Welcome To Derry is tapped to run for nine episodes, with franchise director Andy Muschietti in the director’s seat for four of its episodes. A release date for Welcome To Derry has yet to be announced.
