Elton John and Chappell Roan

Elton John has congratulated Chappell Roan on her recent success in the UK charts.

The ‘Good Luck Babe’ singer recently achieved her first UK Number One album with ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ almost a year after its release.

John took to Instagram to praise her efforts, sharing a picture of the two together and writing: “Congratulations to @chappellroan on her first UK Number 1 album. The meteoric rise of a midwestern princess 🚀🫅 Brilliant pop music that brings the world together at a much needed time ❤

Her album was first released last September, and while the long-awaited debut LP did well on the US charts the first time around, it had less of an impact in the UK.

However, with Roan’s star rising rapidly over the last few months – which has seen her Lollapalooza set join some of the festival’s most-attended in history – it has soared up three places to the top spot on the Official UK Albums Chart, just ahead of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’.

The endorsement from John has left fans clamouring for the two to team up, with one writing: “This collab would shatter the universe,” and others saying they are now “eagerly awaiting a Chappell x Elton collab”.

John has been a long-time fan of Roan’s, and included ‘Red Wine Supernova’ in his 15 favourite songs of 2023 list. When he shared it last year, he wrote: “There’s been a lot of great women this year like Baby QueenMitski, LOONY and boygenius. They’re ruling the roost at the moment. You go, girls.”

John and Roan also appeared together on the Apple Music podcast Rocket Hour, and discussed her rapid rise to fame.

“I rang you the other night and said, ‘Listen, I’m not stalking you, but I’m as excited about your album’s success as you are,’” he said. “It’s wonderful to see true talent being recognized.”
