Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz has teamed up with Cheap Cuts for the latter’s debut single ‘Check Your Phone’ — watch the video for their collaborative track below.
The London-based electronic duo comprise of songwriter and producer Jonny Harris and songwriter, producer and composer Jack Leonard.
The pair’s Instagram account first began teasing their Wentz collaboration last weekend with a series of posts that took inspiration from the pop art icon Roy Lichtenstein (see above).
A video for ‘Check Your Phone’ has now been released (April 15) to accompany the track, which is described as “a fast-paced, spoken word narration [provided by Wentz] of our personal relationship with our often most prized possession – our phones”.
“It’s funny to have everything in the world in a device at the tip of my fingers and feel like it is swallowing me whole sometimes,” Wentz said about the meaning behind the track. “Without a doubt, my phone has made touring, staying in touch and finding out random actors who voiced GI Joe characters from the 80s cartoon easier.
“But my addiction to it is complicated – the last thing I look to at night is its hazy blur, and it is the first text message that jolts me awake in the morning,” he continued. “To me this song is about the anxiety it gives me, but at the same time, the way I feel a bit lighter when I watch a video on it of raccoons walking around like people or whatever. It is messy and filled with complex, opposing perspectives that seem to contradict each other – just like us.”
‘Check Your Phone’ is the latest update from Wentz, who has been keeping fans entertained during the coronavirus lockdown.
Last month, he recreated a Fall Out Boy show using action figures of the band during an entertaining Instagram live feed.
Earlier this month, Fall Out Boy donated $100,000 to the COVID-19 response fund in their native Chicago, Illinois.
