The White Lotus

Fans have reacted excitedly to the first glimpse of the upcoming third season of HBO’s The White Lotus.

The clip was released as part of a showreel of HBO Max’s upcoming new season for 2024-25, which also included first glimpses of The Last of Us season two, The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy and Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

See the showreel below:

The clip shows a shot of a pool at the new White Lotus resort before cutting to the new cast. “What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand,” narrates a female voice.

“We cannot wait any longer,” wrote one excited fan on X.

“I’m completely hooked on The White Lotus!”, said another. “It’s like a thrilling escape with the perfect blend of drama, humour and intrigue. So excited for #TheWhiteLotusS3!”

It was confirmed in February that Lisa from BLACKPINK would be making her acting debut in the new season, which is set in her home country of Thailand. The show was shot on the island of Ko Samui, Phuket and Bangkok.

Several people singled Lisa out as the reason they are excited to see the new season:

Lisa will join Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey and Leslie Bibb in the cast, who were all confirmed in January, as well as Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook and Sam Nivola. Natasha Rothwell will also return, having been a presence in season one.

In February, HBO announced that it would be recasting a role in season three that had originally been given to Serbian actor Miloš Biković.

They did not explain why the decision was made, but it followed accusations against the actor by the Ukraine Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January that he had been a supporter of Russia’s invasion of the country.

Biković responded by saying: “Today, a targeted campaign has been unleashed against me, seemingly as an external manoeuver to influence decisions that can create a disturbing precedent shadowing the essence of artistic freedom.”

“The result of such a narrative is the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art.”

“I grew up in a war-torn country,” the actor added. “At the age of 11 I endured days and nights in shelters while my homeland and my hometown were bombed. And could never wish such devastation on anyone.”
