Naomi Scott

The new trailer for Smile 2 has landed today (September 3) and fans have been reacting online to how “terrifying” the trailer is – watch it below.

The sinister first trailer for the film arrived back in June. The film stars Naomi Scott as pop singer Skye Riley who, as well as struggling with fame and the pressures that come with it, is haunted by a demonic entity known as The Terror.

Smile 2 is due for release on October 18, just ahead of Halloween. It is directed by Parker Finn, who directed the first Smile film in 2022, and the 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept, which formed the basis for its feature length debut.

In the latest trailer, there are many scares. There is one appearance of Syne in her pop star capacity and it shows her make an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show – and includes a cameo from Barrymore herself.

The trailer delves deeper into Skye’s haunting by The Terror and introduces characters who try to work out how to stop it in its tracks.

Alongside Scott, the sequel stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, and Raúl Castillo. Kyle Gallner also returns as Joel from the first movie, the police officer who was cursed by the Smile at the end of the first film.

On social media, fans have been reacting to the “scary” and “terrifying trailer since its release earlier today – check out some of the reactions to the trailer here:

The film – buoyed by a viral promotional campaign – turned out to be a surprise hit, with early viewers sharing positive reactions.

The first Smile centered on a psychiatrist (played by Sosie Bacon) who is tormented after witnessing a traumatic incident with a patient haunted by the Terror. Whoever witnesses someone else’s death at the hands of the entity becomes its next victim to be driven to suicide.

One Twitter user said they felt Smile was “a mix between Hereditary and It Follows” which they called “two of my favourite horror films of recent times”. Others called it the best horror film of that year, while others acknowledged that while it had elements of past horror films in it, it was able to “create its own paradigm”, and was praised for its originality.
