Franz Ferdinand have shared a new four-part podcast series Words So Leisured, narrated by comedian Rose Matafeo.
The new podcast, available now, tells the story of the band from their roots in the early ’00s Glasgow to becoming one of the key players in the mid-’00s indie boom in the UK and beyond.
A synopsis of the podcast reads: “This four-part podcast series, formed of all new, exclusive interviews â charts their career from playing in friends’ bedrooms to The Grammys: takes in the pinch-yourself highs and sometimes dramatic lows of being in a band.
“The series goes behind the scenes of some of the biggest moments â meeting Bowie, winning BRITs, playing to millions â and candidly recalls the times it all almost fell apart. It also delves deeper than ever before into the stories behind the band’s most iconic songs.”
All episodes are available to stream now below.
Last month, Starstruck creator Matafeo was a surprise and unexplained guest for Franz Ferdinandâs performance on This Morning, playing guitar for a rendition of their biggest hit, ‘Take Me Out’.
During the interview segment of the bandâs appearance on the show, host Alison Hammond spotted Matafeo standing with the band, and said: âYouâve got a special guest over there, is that Rose?â
âI won a competition, I wrote into a magazine,â the Starstruck star and creator jokingly replied, with frontman Alex Kapranos explaining: âJulian [Corrie, Franz Ferdinand keys player] couldnât make it today.â
Dermot OâLeary then added to Matafeo: âWe heard you were banned,â to which she replied: âNo, I just used a different name when I entered the competition⊠Iâm keeping a low profile.â
Earlier this year, Franz Ferdinand released their new greatest hits compilation, âHits To The Headâ, which they were on This Morning to promote. Last year, the indie-rock veterans spoke to NME about pulling together their best-of album, and how âthereâs quite a lot of snobbery about greatest hitsâ.
âWhen I was a kid I grew up with greatest hits records,â Kapranos said. âMy folks didnât have a 4,000 LP record collection. They had best-ofs, they had greatest hits, they had âChangesâ by Bowie. They didnât have âLowâ, they didnât have âLodgerâ â and that was enough for them. They just wanted to hear the best bits, they just wanted to hear the hits. Thatâs great.â
