The highly-anticipated sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong has received a promising update from a playtester.

Hollow Knight was first released in 2017, with Hollow Knight: Silksong announced in 2019. Since then, the game has been delayed from the first half of 2023 and still doesn’t currently have a release date.

“We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can,” explained marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin. “Expect more details from us once we get closer to release,” he added.

In February, developers Team Cherry took to the Silksong discord to confirm they were “still hard at work on the game”. However, many fans have since speculated that the development of the Hollow Knight sequel is in trouble, due to the lack of regular updates.

Now, a playtester has reassured fans that Hollow Knight: Silksong is definitely not in “development hell”. Graig has been associated with Team Cherry for a number of years now, and explained to fans that developers missing internal deadlines is very normal (via GamesRadar+). However, he did admit Team Cherry needed better communication.

Fans are getting so frustrated with a lack of updates, a number of members of the Silksong subreddit are drafting open letters to try and get some news from Team Cherry about the game.

There have been hints that a release could be imminent though. In April, Hollow Knight: Silksong was rated in Australia while an official store page was launched on the Xbox digital storefront. “No, this is not a joke,” said Xbox’s X account at the time.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially planned as an expansion to the 2014 original but as plans grew, Team Cherry decided to make the DLC a full sequel. In Silksong, players will take the role of Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, who is described as a more agile protagonist compared to Knight from Hollow Knight.

As well as being available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC, Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

In other news, a new update to Elden Ring has finally fixed a problem that’s been annoying fans since the game first launched.
