In The Beginning There Were Answers – 25 years of Idlewild will be published next February, and is written by the band’s frontman Roddy Woomble.
The band shared images of the book, which they say they’ve been working on for “the past few years”, in social media posts announcing its publication.
“The 225 page book charts the story of the band from its formation in the autumn of 1995 in Edinburgh, through the early years of local gigs, onto recording and touring albums such as â100 Broken Windowsâ and âThe Remote Part’,” the band said. It also features a foreword by author Benjamin Myers.

Idlewild were also due to celebrate their 25th anniversary with a November tour of the UK and Ireland, however the shows were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. New dates for 2021 were revealed in September.
The Scottish rockers released their most recent album, âInterview Musicâ, back in 2019. In a four-star review of the album, NMEâs Andrew Trendell wrote: âFree from commercial constraints, Idlewild are reinvigorated. âInterview Musicâ is their best work in 17 years.
While announcing a new âexperimentalâ solo EP back in March, Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble spoke to NME about the bandâs plans for the anniversary tour.
âWe did the 15th anniversary for âThe Remote Partâ in 2017 and we got Bob [bassist from 1997â2002] back on stage for a few songs. It was really worthwhile on so many levels, so we thought that the next time we had a significant anniversary we should do something proper for it.
âThe 25th anniversary seemed like the perfect time to put together a proper show. Weâre going to get everyone whoâs been in the band over the past 25 years.â
