It has been confirmed that the Irish singer-songwriter Talos has passed at the age of 37 earlier this week (Sunday August 11).
Talos’ – real name Eoin French – family confirmed his passing with a statement that was shared to the musician’s social media accounts. They explained that his death came after a short illness.
“Eoin passed peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of Sunday August 11 2024 in his native Cork, surrounded by his loved ones,” read the statement.
It continued: “A beautiful soul, a true artist, a son, a husband, a father, and a friend. We are devastated by his passing. As was his wish, there will be new music from Talos to share with you all in the future. Team Talos.”
Ireland sadly lost a very talented Irish artist called Talos (Eoin French). He made beautiful ethereal music and when he played the castle in Limerick it rang out over the river like siren song.

Deeply, deeply tragic. I interviewed Eoin once, hung out with him after a gig another time, and caught Talos live a handful of times – he was a lovely guy, charming, super talented, and he leaves behind incredible, sky-scraping music. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP https://t.co/Ow2YY7YmSj

The musician grew up on the north side of Cork and trained as an architect and lectured in architecture at the University College Cork. French was also a part of the band Hush War Cry, and also studied at Cork School of Music.
He released his debut album ‘Wild Alee’ in 2017 and followed that with 2019’s release his second full-length effort ‘Far Out Dust’. His final release was 2022’s ‘Dear Chaos’.
French’s stage name ‘Talos’ was derived from Greek mythology. In Greek mythology, Talos was a 30-meter-tall, bronze humanoid automaton created by the god Hephaestus to protect the island of Crete from invaders.
After the announcement of his death, The Coronas singer Danny O’Reilly shared: “So saddened to hear this, sending love to Eoin’s family and friends x.”
Irish singer-songwriter RuthAnne also commented: “Heartbreaking news RIP Eoin thank you for your music it will live on forever.”
Irish folk band Beoga added: “Rest in peace Eoin, an amazing artist and a beautiful soul x.”
