South Korean singer-songwriter IU has renamed her new single from ‘Love Wins’ to ‘Love Wins All’ following “queerbaiting” allegations.
On January 15, IU announced the upcoming release of a new single called ‘Love Wins’. In a now-deleted follow-up post, IU also confirmed that BTS‘ V will star in the music video for ‘Love Wins’, to be helmed by Concrete Utopia director Um Tae-hwa.
On January 19, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced that the single would be retitled as ‘Love Wins All’ in order to “respect and support everyone who loves in their various ways”.
“We accept the opinions of those who express concerns that precious messages might be blurred due to the title,” the company added. “If there is one single thing that is exactly opposite to the message [of the song] would be the word ‘hatred’.”
We deeply hope that the original message of the song is delivered without leaving any scars on anyone, as every love wins all in the world with no hatred.”
The move to retitle the song to ‘Love Wins All’ comes shortly after IU reportedly faced backlash for allegedly “queerbaiting” with the song’s original title, ‘Love Wins’, according to a story by The Korea Times.
The slogan “love wins” was widely used in 2015, following a landmark decision by the US Supreme Court which ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples.

Back in December, the singer confirmed that she was working on a new album to be released in early 2024. At the time, her agency EDAM Entertainment also confirmed that she had filmed a music video for an upcoming release starring BTS’ V.
IU’s last solo release was her 2021 mini-album ‘Pieces’, which comprised several unreleased tracks that she had written and composed herself. In the same year, she also dropped her fifth full-length studio album, ‘Lilac’.
The singer has participated in a string of collaborations in the past few years, the most recent of which was BTS rapper Suga’s ‘People Pt. 2’ in April 2023. The song had been the pre-release single to his solo studio album ‘D-Day’, which arrived later that month.
Meanwhile, BTS‘ Suga is the face of Valentino’s latest menswear campaign for its 2024 S/S collection, Valentino The Narratives.
