Jodie Comer has revealed that she was once involved in a snowmobile crash with Phoebe Waller-Bridge – you can watch her recall the story in the video above.
In an exclusive interview with NME, while promoting their new film The Bikeriders, both Comer and Austin Butler shared their first memories of riding a motorcycle.
“It was probably like four years ago in Costa Rica on a very old, not safe one, that broke down – and that was my only experience,” Comer said, before reminding herself of her near-disastrous snowmobile accident.
“I’m quite accident prone. I feel like I am, anyway. I’ve been on the back of snowmobile and that didn’t go so well.”
When Butler asked her if she crashed, she replied: “Yeah, into a tree. It was bad, actually.
“It was in Utah with Phoebe Waller-Bridge,” she laughed. “We were like, ‘We’ll have a day off, we’ll go skiing,’ and they had no skis, so they had snowmobiles, and she was so elegant through the long snow and I followed her.
“I was [driving] by myself. So this is why I tend to stay away [from being the driver]. I’m a great passenger. I’m happy to be the passenger. That’s what I enjoyed about my experience on The Bikeriders… the guys can take on the heavy lifting and I can sit on the back and just enjoy it.”
Comer then clarified that neither she nor Waller-Bridge were injured as a result of the crash. “She was on a different [snowmobile]. I was fine, thankfully.”
Butler then shared: “My first time on a motorcycle was with my dad as a kid. We lived in California at the time and we would go on these long road trips. That was my first memory.”
Asked if he was best rider on the cast, he replied: “No, Norman Reedus rides a lot, Karl [Glusman] is a great rider, Toby [Wallace] rode very well, and Tom [Hardy] rides a lot.
“Everyone really threw themselves into it,” added Comer. “You could just tell that everyone was so excited about the prospect of it, and actually doing it.”
From Midnight Special writer and director Jeff Nichols, The Bikeriders was due to arrive last year but was put on hold due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The film follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club over the course of a decade, as it recruits new members and gradually becomes a more sinister gang.
In a four-star review, NME heavily praised Comer and Butler’s performances, and described Jeff Nichols’ drama as “a stylish look at a bygone era, when all that mattered was having enough money to put petrol in your tank.”
In other news, Comer recently revealed that she has been studying Cheryl’s Geordie accent in preparation for the Newcastle-set 28 Years Later.
