Actor and comedian John Mulaney has entered rehab seeking treatment for cocaine and alcohol abuse, according to reports.
Page Six reported that Mulaney had checked into a facility in Pennsylvania for 60 days, which People says it has “confirmed”.
A source told Page Six: âJohnâs friends and family are happy that heâs finally getting some help and focusing on his health.
âHis fans know heâs struggled in the past with sobriety, he has talked about it openly. Unfortunately he has struggled again during the pandemic. Heâs on board with his recovery, heâs not fighting against rehab.â
Mulaney, who has worked on Saturday Night Live and Big Mouth among other shows, has been open about his issues with addiction in the past.
He told Esquire  in 2019 that he began drinking at the age of 13. “I drank for attention,” he said. “I was really outgoing, and then at 12, I wasn’t. I didn’t know how to act. And then I was drinking, and I was hilarious again.
In the interview he said that he became sober in 2005, aged 23. “I went on a bender that weekend that was just, like, fading in and out of a movie ⊠It was just crazy ⊠I was like, âYouâre fâking out of control,’â he said. âAnd I thought to myself, âI donât like this guy anymore. Iâm not rooting for him.’â
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year, Mulaney said he has struggled during quarantine, and asked his friend Seth Meyers for a job to help his mental health.
âI really needed a job. I like having a boss and having assignments to do,â Mulaney said. âWhen Iâm in charge of something⊠not so much the best thing. I wanted to have a boss, I wanted to have structure.â
Elsewhere in the interview, he revealed that he had been investigated by the secret service about one of his jokes.
