Joseph Quinn (Gladiator 2, Stranger Things) is reportedly playing George Harrison in the upcoming Beatles biopic by director Sam Mendes.
A report by Deadline on Thursday (December 12) claimed that, according to industry sources, Quinn is the main choice for the role.
This follows recent reports where Gladiator 2 director Ridley Scott claimed that Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney in the film, and that Ringo Starr himself seemed to confirm that Barry Keoghan is casted as the drummer.
In June, it was reported that Mendes had cast the two actors, along with Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Charlie Rowe for the role of Harrison. However, Deadline outlined that no deals for the roles have been made official by the studio yet.
Dickinson previously responded to the casting rumours by saying that “it would be amazing to do that”.
He continued: “I think the idea of Sam teaming up to do something like that would be incredibly exciting. Obviously, John Lennon is a very complex role, a pretty formidable force to try to do. It would be cool.”
Mendes, known for helming 1917, Spectre and Skyfall, has previously said he expects to be working on the four Beatles films until âsome time in the middle of 2028â. Information from Production List indicates that the first film will begin shooting in London in July 2025.
Quinn and Mescal recently starred together in Gladiator 2, which also featured Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielsen. Quinn also recently wrapped up filming for The Fantastic Four: First Steps with Pascal.
In NME’s three-star review of Gladiator 2, Alex Flood wrote: “Mescal, with his strong jawline and smouldering intensity, looks every bit Croweâs successor.
“Denzel Washingtonâs deliciously campy slave master Macrinus has aspirations for political power, providing a potent supporting character arc. And Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) do well to make their spoiled brat despots sufficiently hateable.”
