Josh Homme has promised that he will “roll his sleeves up” so that the next album Queens Of The Stone Age won’t keep fans waiting too long.
The frontman discussed the plans for new material during a new appearance on the Dish podcast, where he looked back at the band’s run of tour dates and the fans’ response to their most recent work.
Homme and co. dropped their latest LP, ‘In Times New Roman…’, last year, and the release marked their eighth studio album and long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s ‘Villains’. However, according to the vocalist, the band have no intention of waiting another six years to drop more material.
“There was too much time in between the last record and this one,” he said (via Music News). “The goal is to make things and enjoy that process and so I’m going to roll up my sleeves and jump right into this.”
He also went on to express his appreciation for Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl, and admit that he has been like a “brother” to him throughout his time in the music industry. “No one has done more for me in my career than Dave,” Homme said. “He definitely told the world about me and my vast and endless well of talent, and he’s just always been like a brother.”
The comments made by the singer reflect those shared by guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and drummer Jon Theodore while at Download this summer, when the two hinted to NME that they had new material in the works.
“I think we’re going to take a little break. I know we have some plans for next year that are loosely being talked about,” Van Leeuwen said when asked about the band’s future plans.
Theodore also added: “There are definitely some aces in some sleeves so to speak…”
On the topic of their future, their frontman Josh Homme said: “I think we should be making something. The mantra of the last five years was, ‘It won’t be long now!’ That needs to pertain to making things too. I certainly think we should make more, faster-er, better-er.”
In other QOTSA news, the band recently were forced to cancel some of their European tour dates due to Homme needing to undergo “emergency surgery”.
“Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue,” they shared at the time. “Queens are gutted we aren’t able to play for you. We apologise for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment.”
At time of writing, it remains unclear what the surgical procedure needed by the frontman is, and it is not known if the band’s remaining dates across August will go ahead as planned. No update has been shared about their forthcoming dates in September and October, and it is expected that more details will be shared soon.
They have been touring extensively over the past year in celebration of ‘In Times New Roman…’, and the album was given a four-star review by NME. “This is up there with their darkest, knottiest material to date, and will be appreciated all the more for it,” it read.
