Kanye West has reportedly withdrawn from the US presidential race, less than two weeks after announcing that he would run. A member of Westâs campaign team, Steve Kramer, has reportedly told New York Magazineâs Intelligencer off-shot that the rapper will no longer contest the election.
âHeâs out,â Kramer told Intelligencer.
Kramer did not specify Westâs reasons for allegedly withdrawing, but said heâd âlet [Intelligencer] know what I know once I get all our stuff cancelled.â
Kanye West announced his intention to run for US president on July 4.
âWe must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,â West wrote on Twitter.
âI am running for president of the United States!â

Initially, West garnered support from social media users, including from Elon Musk. The rapper later claimed that Musk would be appointed âhead of our space programâ under his presidency.
Kanye Westâs presidential campaign hit a snag almost immediately, however, when it was revealed that he had already missed the voter registration deadline in six separate states. Despite this, West continued to campaign for the top job, telling Forbes that âif I win in 2020 then it was Godâs appointment.â
The rapperâs presidential bid also caught backlash from a handful of his musical contemporaries. Katy Perry termed Westâs decision to run âa little wildâ, while Will.i.am opined that the presidency is âa dangerous thing to be playing withâ. Elon Musk also reneged on his support for West following the rapperâs interview with Forbes.
Yesterday (July 14), a US presidential poll revealed that Kanye West had the support of just 2% of voters.
Outside of his presidential aspirations, West released a new single, entitled âDondaâ, earlier this week (July 13). The song is a tribute to Westâs late mother, who passed in away in 2007.
