Katy Perry has opened up about her forthcoming album ‘143’, calling it a “dance party and everyone’s invited”.

The singer announced her “bold and exuberant” album just days ago (July 10), where it is set for release on September 20 and is available for pre-sale / pre-order here.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music radio show about the upcoming record, Perry described it as a “dance party and everyone’s invited” and further elaborated on its title.

“It’s called 143. It’s my angel number. It’s my symbol, it’s my sign,” she explained. “A couple years ago, we were going through a little bit of a hard time medically in our family, and it was a little bit scary, and I started seeing 143 in many different ways, not just on the phone.”

She went on to say that the number was “like code for ‘I love you'”, and that she found it comforting, adding: “I really believe it was my angels, my guides, saying, ‘I love you. We got you. We’re going to protect you. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. You’re on the path.'”

Perry also previewed snippets from her songs ‘Gorgeous’ and ‘Lifetime’ – take a listen to them down below:

So far, Perry has released the album’s first single ‘Woman’s World’, whose video saw her dress up as Rosie the Riveter and a bionic woman.

The singer has previously shared other previews of songs like ‘I’m His, He’s Mine’, ‘Gimme Gimme’ with 21 Savage and another new song, ‘Nirvana’.

Last December, it was reported that the pop star was gearing up to release her “most personal” material yet in 2024. It was said at the time that plans for a world tour were also underway.

2020’s ‘Smile’ is Perry’s last studio album, serving as her fifth record. NME reviewed the album at the time, giving it two stars and writing: “It’s frustrating, as this is the woman behind some of the most fun – and biggest-selling – songs of all time. But as much as you want ‘Smile’ to be a return to form, her fifth album’s songs fail to grip. All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years.”
