The announcement was made over Twitter (X) at midnight KST today (August 8), detailing the upcoming project’s format, title and release date of September 4 at 6pm KST. ‘문(門)’ directly translates to English as “door”. The impending release of Kim’s new album was first confirmed by her label, Jellyfish Entertainment, last month following speculative reports from South Korean media, per Soompi.
The post also attached the first visual for the album, depicting two separate but connected doors that open to vastly different worlds – one that leads to a utopia of greenery, the other to darkness and shadows. However, remaining details such as a track list and other visuals have yet to be released, but are expected in the coming weeks.

The upcoming release of ‘문(門)’ will mark Kim’s first music in about two years since she released her second mini-album ‘I’m’ in 2021. As a singer, she has had several hit solo tracks over her career as a soloist, including ‘Flower Way’ and ‘Plant’. Prior to her solo career, Kim was a part of the project girl group I.O.I – born of the first iteration of K-pop trainee survival programme Produce 101– as well as Jellyfish Entertainment’s nine-piece gugudan. The latter band was subsequently disbanded at the end of 2020.
In the time since Kim’s musical endeavours, she has been active as a rising actress, having starred in several hit productions in the past two years such as A Business Proposal, Today’s Webtoon and The Uncanny Counter. Currently, she stars in the second season of The Uncanny Counter, which premiered its first episode two weeks ago and continues to air two episodes every weekend.
In other K-pop news, BLACKPINK have taken to social media to commemorate their seventh year together as a band, with all four members writing personal tributes to the group. YG Entertainment has also rolled out a number of events in celebration of the milestone across major cities in the U.S and Asia.
