Donald Trump Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey fans have been reacting to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump on social media.

Former President Donald Trump was seen being rushed off stage during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday (July 13) after a gunman opened fire from a nearby building, grazing his ear. The gunman and a member of the audience were killed.

Del Rey has been vocal about her disdain for Trump, previously calling him “a reflection of our world’s greatest problem, which is not climate change, but sociopathy and narcissism”, and saying he suffers from “delusions of grandeur”.

So many memes of the two circulated online following the apparent assassination attempt, Sportskeeda did a fact check after a tweet, viewed by over 6million users, emerged quoting her as saying: “I wouldn’t have missed.”

Although the account openly states its content is satirical, the association with Del Rey and Trump has given rise to many similar images online, particularly given she just starred in the video for her and Quavo’s collaboration, ‘Tough’, wielding a gun.

The image of a bloodied Trump pumping a fist in front of an American flag also seemed to conjure her ‘Born To Die’ era, during which she recreated the assassination of John F. Kennedy in the ‘National Anthem‘ video, and came under fire for explorations of Americana that saw her drape herself in the flag, something she dropped in 2017 – the year Trump became President.

At the time, she told Pitchfork: “I’m not going to have the American flag waving while I’m singing ‘Born to Die’. It’s not going to happen. I’d rather have static,” and has been consistently critical of the former President.

Many of the images on X/Twitter reference a time she sparked speculation that she was using witchcraft to get rid of Trump, which she confirmed it in an interview with NME.

“Yeah, I did it. Why not?” she said in the 2017 interview. “Look, I do a lot of shit.

“I’m in line with Yoko [Ono] and John [Lennon] and the belief that there’s a power to the vibration of a thought,” she continued. “Your thoughts are very powerful things and they become words, and words become actions, and actions lead to physical charges.”
