Lee Sun-kyun

Late South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun’s final feature films are scheduled to hit theatres later this year, its distributors have announced.

Prior to Lee Sun-kyun’s death in December 2023, the actor had been working on two films, Project Silence and The Land of Happiness. The former is now set to be released in July, according to distributor CJ ENM, and will star the late actor as a security office administrator trapped on a collapsing bridge.

Project Silence, directed by Kim Tae-gon, will follow a group of people who find themselves facing experimental military dogs that were released during a chain-reaction collision on a bridge that’s on the verge of collapse. The film will also star Ju Ji-hoon, Moon Sung-keun, Ye Soo-jung and more.

Lee’s second project, The Land of Happiness, is a period piece based on the assassination of former South Korean President Park Chung-hee. The actor will play soldier Park Tae-joo, who is up for the death sentence in his role in a presidential assassination in 1979.

The film is expected to be released this August, according to distributor NEW. Aside from Lee, The Land of Happiness will also star Captivating the King actor Jo Jung-suk as lawyer Jung In-hoo.

Lee Sun-kyun was found dead at the age of 48 on December 27, 2023 in the Jongno District of Seoul, South Korea. In the months prior to his passing, the actor had been under investigation by the South Korean police on suspicion of drug use.
