Grammy-nominated vocalist Coco Jones features on The Cover this week (May 20) as we continue to renew our commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover, and the full interview with Jones can be read here.
To celebrate, the LA-based artist has put together a playlist titled ‘Cleansed Of Him’, featuring tracks from Summer Walker, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, fellow NME Cover star Rachel Chinouriri and more. Listen to the full playlist below on Spotify, and here on Apple Music.
Having recently released her powerful single ‘Here We Go (Uh Oh)’, Jones outlined her mission statement in her Cover interview. “I think music is about telling your own story and telling the story of the human experience,” she told NME. “I wouldn’t want to make a song that only relates to me, I want to make songs which can relate to the world.”
The track, her first release of 2024, joins her impressive catalogue which includes her 2022 project ‘What I Didn’t Tell You’. It was her platinum-selling track ‘ICU’, however, which earned Jones her first Grammy win for Best R&B Performance earlier this year.
She added: “I think what people are really looking for is songs that inspire a feeling. Songs that have some sense of urgency, and it’s in the genre of R&B but it’s really this feeling thing that people are looking for mainly. I’m just doing the things that make me feel something, that’ll relate to whoever the right audience is.”
