Oasis have shared a rare alternative version of ‘Sad Song’, sung by Liam Gallagher – listen to it below.
The original song features Noel Gallagher on vocals and is a bonus track on the Britpop band’s debut studio album, 1994’s ‘Definitely Maybe’.
Today (August 14) they have released ‘Sad Song (Mauldeth Road West Demo, Nov ’92)’ as the latest preview of their 30th anniversary reissue of the record, which is out on August 30 via Big Brother (pre-order here).
It follows the previously shared ‘Up In The Sky (Monnow Valley Version)’ and ‘Columbia (Sawmills Outtake)’ from the forthcoming collection.

Available in various formats, the 30th anniversary reissue of ‘Definitely Maybe’ will contain recordings from the abandoned original session at Monnow Valley Studios, and outtakes from the definitive album recording session at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall – newly mixed by Noel Gallagher and Callum Marinho.
A description reads: “The Monnow Valley recordings and Sawmill outtakes, now unearthed for the first time, offer a new and compelling understanding of the process that led to the finished article.
“With its raw edges and restless energy, ‘Definitely Maybe’ always sounded like an album that had arrived fully formed – however the newly revealed versions provide fans with a fascinating new insight into the album; demonstrating the self-belief that drove the early years of Oasis and the determination it took to create their debut.”
It adds: “Shelved until now, revisiting the archive 30 years on signifies the importance of the recording process in telling the story of the uneasy creation of one of the most vital albums of all time.”
Earlier this summer, Liam wrapped up his ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary UK and Ireland tour – where he dedicated ‘Half The World Away’ to his “little brother” Noel. He also told the crowd that Noel was “still playing hard to get” regarding an Oasis reunion.
LG is due to continue the celebrations next week when he plays the album in full during his headline sets at Reading & Leeds 2024.
Meanwhile, LG has talked about the chances of a ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ 30th anniversary tour in 2025.
In other news, Noel Gallagher has said he is still trying to “live up” to the success of Oasis’ first two albums.
“We went directly from the last night of the ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour to record ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, and then spent the following 29 years – and counting – trying to live up to both albums,” he recalled.
“We knew the songs were great because we played them every night and all the shows were outrageous. But at that time it was just a good album – nothing more, nothing less. It’s only through time that it has become what it is now.”
The High Flying Birds frontman also responded to a fan in the crowd at Y Not Festival recently after they asked him about the possibility of an Oasis reunion during his headline set.
