NME’s latest star of The Cover, Sarah Kinsley, has shared a playlist exclusively to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The New York musician is on this week’s (August 5) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of Sarah Kinsley here, written by Cordelia Lam and featuring photography by Bella Howard.

Accompanying the story is an exclusive playlist Kinsley has compiled, ‘Songs To Escape To’, featuring tracks by Blood Orange, Nabihah Iqbal, Minnie Riperton, Imogen Heap, Brittany Howard and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

On the newly-24-year-old Kinsley’s upcoming debut album ‘Escaper’, she steps into the new reality of adulthood – one that threw her into a “strange and heavy period of grief and loss” last year after a good friend died. “Escapism became the most natural survival instinct,” she shared with NME. “I wanted to transcend normal life, become someone else… just not have to work through the loss of a person, the ‘zero-sum’ feeling of suddenly losing so much love in my life.”

Elsewhere in her Cover story, Kinsley told NME about expanding her creative circle with acclaimed producer John Congleton, the magic of friendship, why distraction and escapism can only help you to a certain point, and more.
