Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly has opened up about the strained relationship between himself and his mother.

The rapper – real name Colson Baker – appeared on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, shortly after appearing alongside her in the video for himself and Jelly Roll’s most recent collaboration, ‘Lonely Road’.

In the opening episode of the eighth season, Kelly explained: “I would like to say for the record, I love my mom dearly and I misrepresented her a lot early in my career. And not misrepresented in the sense of not speaking truth. I was speaking my truth, but I didn’t give the masses the chance to understand her truth.”

Kelly wrote about his difficulties with his mother in 2019’s ‘Hotel Diablo‘ track, ‘Burning Memories’, with lyrics including: “Yeah, this one’s for the mama that I never knew (Never knew)/ I took acid just to burn all of my memories of you /I guess now I really wanna know the truth /How’d you leave your only child at nine for another dude?”

In the podcast, he mentioned a major source of his emotional pain was that his mother didn’t make an effort to track him down once she left the family. “You gotta get to me… come fucking find me no matter what it takes,” he said, while also pointing out that meeting Megan Fox was a significant factor in confronting his “mother wound”.

He has since reconciled with his mother, posted a picture of the two of them side by side on Instagram in 2022 with the caption: “Introducing my mom”.

Elsewhere, Kelly has continued his foray into country with a cover of Zach Bryan’s ‘Sun To Me’.
