Madonna’s son, David Banda, has spoken out against claims that he is both “homeless” and unable to afford food.
Rumours about the 18-year-old’s financial state came into discussion recently after he appeared in an Instagram livestream, talking with fans and sharing insight into his living situation.
Opening up about what life was like after his recent high school graduation, when a fan asked if he “likes living on your own”, Banda shared that he was sharing a home with his girlfriend.
“It’s lovely to experience it being 9 o’clock at night, me being hungry and realising that I don’t have enough money to get food,” he said. “But we don’t have enough food in the house and [are] scavenging… it’s fun.”
Following the livestream, fans were quick to speculate about the teenager’s living conditions, and rumours emerged that he was “homeless” and “starving”, while not receiving any help from his mother.
Now, Banda has addressed the concern, and clarified that he is “very happy” and his mother is “very supportive” of him. Similarly, according to his Instagram bio, he is currently bringing in funds as a guitar teacher.

“To all of those concerned, my mother is very supportive of me. She has always been supportive of me,” he wrote in an Instagram Story. “I am very happy in my life and I am not living out on the streets, starving! Please stop worrying, everything is good.”
Speaking to People, a source also told fans that there was nothing to be concerned about in regards to the 18-year-old’s wellbeing – saying the two remain “very close” and Madge has “always been supportive of all of her kids”.
The outlet also reported that Banda – as well as his siblings – played an important role in crafting the pop star’s recent ‘Celebration’ world tour, and highlighted that Madonna also shared an emotional post last year to mark his birthday.
In the post, the singer explained how his name means “speak the truth” and she “couldn’t think of a better name for an artist.”
“It is impossible to believe that almost 18 years have gone by since We met you in Mchinji at Home of Hope Orphanage!” she added, referring to how she and ex-partner Guy Ritchie adopted him in 2005.
In other Madonna news, it was recently reported that a planned biopic around the singer is back in the works.
Earlier this month (July 16), the pop icon took to social media to share that she’s been rewriting the script for the biographical film, which is now being titled Who’s That Girl. The film is being titled after her 1987 album of the same title – but is not to be confused with her 1987 comedy film that shares the same name.
The biopic – which has been in the works for several years now – was scrapped in January last year, and would’ve seen the pop singer direct as a way to stop “misogynistic men” from telling her story.
