Massive Attack

Massive Attack have shared the stage times and more information about their upcoming ‘Act 1.5’ show at Bristol Downs. Find out more below.

Details of the homecoming gig were first shared in December, when the trip-hop collective confirmed that 2024 would see them perform at an all-day “large-scale climate action accelerator event” – celebrating 25 years of climate activism for the band.

The gig will take place next Sunday (August 25) at Clifton Downs in Bristol, and will mark the first performance that Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja and Grant ‘Daddy G’ Marshall have played on UK soil in five years.

The likes of Killer Mike, Lankum, Sam Morton and the Wild Bunch’s DJ Milo are also set to perform at the gig, and you can click here to find any remaining tickets.

Now, just over a week before the performances kick off, the band have shared the stage times for the event. With live sets beginning at 2pm.

DJ Milo will take to the stage first and hold an hour-long set between 2pm and 3pm, followed by a 15-minute interval before Sam Morton plays between 3:15pm and 4pm. From there, the Mercury Prize-nominated Irish group will play between 4:40pm and 5:40pm, followed by Killer Mike, whose set will be between 6:25pm and 7:25pm.

Finally, Massive Attack will round off the night with their huge headline set that comes in just shy of two hours long. This will see them take to the Bristol stage at 8:25pm and finish at 10:15pm.

Guest speakers and DJ sets from DJ Milo will also continue throughout the day.

The set times for Massive Attack’s ‘Act 1.5’ show are:

20:25 – 22:15: Massive Attack
18:25 – 19:25: Killer Mike
16:40 – 17:40: Lankum
15:15 – 16:00: Sam Morton
14:00 – 15:00: DJ Milo

Elsewhere at the site, there will also be a Fire Sale Field Studio, which will see contributions from artists like Jeremy Deller, Coldwar Steve, Kennard Phillips, Ella Baron, Frank Riot, 3D and more, and offer one-off limited edition signed and hand-finished prints and t-shirts. This will be open between 2pm and 6pm, and all profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in the West Bank and Gaza.

More details on the live panels at the ‘Act 1.5’ show have also been shared and will be hosted by Michael Walker, Moya Lothian-McLean and Chal Ravens.

These include talks like ‘Is Capitalism Doomed?’, ‘Does the World still care about Gaza?’, ‘The Greenest Government Ever?’, ‘2073 Directing Dystopia’ and ‘Black History in Bristol’. A “very special guest” is also set to attend, although their identity will not be revealed until closer to the time.

New details about the event come as Massive Attack shared details on the measures they have put in place to reduce emissions last month.

With the show, the band look to set a new standard for the decarbonisation of live music. “The ACT 1.5 event in August may be the last time we play Bristol, so we’ve put a lot of attention into making sure the experience is as rich as possible. The show itself is a transgressive leap in our collaboration with Adam Curtis and United Visual Artists that we’re really excited to present,” Del Naja said.

“The show production is pioneering in all aspects of decarbonisation and will create a blueprint for the way live shows can be produced. The scale of innovations and emissions reductions will speak for themselves. It’s a special moment for multiple reasons, and we cannot wait to see you all there.”

Some of the decarbonisation measures include a 48-hour ticket pre-sale Bristol region postcodes, five show special trains operating one hour after the Network Rail schedule is closed – with routes predicated on anonymised ticket holder postcode data, with free electric shuttle buses.

Similarly, the entire festival site and operations will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy and battery, 100 per cent plant-based food outlets will feature which use a localised food supply chain, and a reusable cup system at all bars will encourage attendees to bring their own reusable containers.

Following the Bristol show, the band will embark on a handful of 2024 North American shows in the autumn – marking their first gigs in the US in five years.
