Michael B. Jordan has shared an update on I Am Legend 2 with Will Smith – see what Jordan had to say below.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Michael B. Jordan spoke about the upcoming sequel to the 2007 post-apocalyptic action thriller film I Am Legend, which starred Will Smith. I Am Legend 2 was first announced in March 2022, with Smith reprising his role as scientist Robert Neville.
Now, Michael B. Jordan has shared that they are “still working on the script and getting that up to par.” He went on to add: “It doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. I’m not sure exactly where we’re going to be filming that one, but I’m really excited to get in front of the camera with him.”
On the topic of working with Will Smith, Jordan said: “Being somebody that I’ve looked up to for a really long time, to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.”
Little else is known of I Am Legend 2 at the time of writing, besides that it will retcon the original film’s ending, and will instead follow the alternate ending in the film’s DVD version.
Last year, the sequel’s producer and writer, Akiva Goldsmith also confirmed that the film will feature a time-jump. “This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman said. “I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world just post-apocalypse but also after a 20-30-year lapse.”
The first I Am Legend film was adapted from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the 2007 film starred Smith as virologist Robert Neville, the sole survivor of a man-made plague that transforms humans into bloodthirsty monsters, who follow him as he fights to find a cure.
