Missing Or Murdered

Missing Or Murdered has been given a bigger platform through Netflix UK.

The documentary series, which originally aired on Channel 5 in 2019, follows three unsolved missing person cases ranging from 1988 to 2009 across three episodes.

The cases include the disappearance of 15-year-old Lee Boxell in September 1988, 19-year-old Luke Durbin in May 2006, and 35-year-old Claudia Lawrence in March 2009.

At the time of writing (July 26), all three episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

Lee Boxell, 15, was last seen on Sutton High Street in London on September 10, 1988. There have been no further sightings of Boxell since his disappearance.

35 years later, an appeal for more information was launched by police in September 2023 with a £20,000 reward.

In a statement (via the BBC), detective chief inspector Kate Blackburn, said: “While we don’t have conclusive evidence that Lee came to harm, with no sightings or credible information in 35 years we sadly believe that Lee is no longer alive.”

Luke Durbin, 19, was last seen on a night out with friends in Ipswich on May 12, 2006. The Missing Or Murdered documentary revealed he had been involved in county lines drug dealing.

The case was later featured in Channel 5 documentary Vanished: The Hunt For Britain’s Missing People in 2023. Suffolk Police continue to appeal for more information.

Claudia Lawrence, 35, was last seen in York on March 18, 2009. She was reported missing after she failed to turn up to work at the University of York’s Goodricke College the following day. Her case is now treated as a murder investigation by police.

Following the Missing Or Murdered documentary, Claudia’s father Peter died aged 74 in 2021. Her mother, Joan, discussed the case in a podcast titled Answers For Claudia with journalist Tom McDermott in April this year.

During the podcast, McDermott said Joan had been subject to many theories from amateur detectives, which has caused distress to the 80-year-old.

“People have rung her, pushed notes through her door and stopped her on the street,” McDermott said. “Over one two-week period she rang me with three possible lines of inquiry people have brought to her, each she feels unable to dismiss or look away from.”
