Mitski at All Points East

Charli XCX’s ‘BRAT’ summer continues – and now it seems to have infiltrated Mitski’s set at All Points East this Sunday (August 18).

Mitski took to the stage yesterday ahead of performances from LCD Soundsystem on August 23 and Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service on August 25.

During her performance at Victoria Park, Mitski addressed her fans and asked them to applaud all the performers and staff members at the festival, saying: “Can we please give a round of applause to all of the artists and bands who have played today?”

She continued: “And then of course, very important, can we please give a round of applause to the crew and staff that made this all happen.”

Soon after, the crowd starting to chant ‘Brat green” seemingly in response to the security professionals at the event who were wearing hi-vis jackets.

At first, Mitski couldn’t work out what they were saying before she finally exclaimed “Brat Green!” to huge applause and cheers from the audience (via Evening Standard).

Check out some reaction to the moment here:

Charli XCX’s seventh album ‘Brat’ has been at the centre of its own cultural phenomenon since it was released in June. Its simple lime green artwork became a meme, while fans on social media have embraced the record’s hedonistic aesthetic and attitude.

Charli XCX tweeted “Kamala IS brat”, following Joe Biden endorsing Kamala Harris as his successor in the 2024 US presidential race, leading to political pundits embarrassingly trying and failing to explain the ‘Brat’ phenomenon.

Among the countless ways that her album has taken over the summer is Chappell Roan sharing a selfie holding a CD copy of ‘Brat’, leading fans to believe that she will feature on a forthcoming Charli track, and Charli recently bringing the album to Ibiza for a ‘Party Girl’-inspired set at the Boiler Room.

‘Brat’ has also been nominated for the Mercury Prize and the winner will be revealed in September.

Meanwhile, Mitski performed a career-spanning set at All Points East that included ‘Buffalo Replaced’, ‘My Love Mine All Mine’, ‘Working For The Knife’ and ‘Washing Machine Heart’.

Mitski also played songs from her last album, ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’, which peaked at Number Four in the UK albums chart following its release last year.
