The poet, actor and political activist passed away at the age of 65 back in December. The news of his death was announced on his Instagram page and came after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour just eight weeks prior.
‘Where Is Your Pride?’ features a spoken word poem delivered by Zephaniah performed over a breakbeat. “Where is your love / Where is your faith / Where is your hope / Where is your place,” he recites, in his characteristic, flowing style.
Speaking of the song in a statement (per The Line Of Best Fit), Moby said: “As a vegan activist, and as a wise and compassionate man, Benjamin inspired me for many years. I hope that ‘where is your pride’ honors his legacy and also draws people’s attention to his life, work, and principles.”
The electronic musician and producer also shared a video on Instagram revealing that he and Zephaniah were going to release the track last year but the poet became very ill and tragically passed away.
“I’m releasing it in the hopes that it draws attention to Benjamin’s animal rights activism, his erudition, his poetic beautiful spirit and soul. ‘Where Is Your Pride?’ is a testament to Benjamin and an honour to his legacy,” Moby said in the video.
‘Where Is Your Pride?’ will be featured in Moby’s forthcoming 22nd album, ‘Always Centered At Night’, which is set for release on June 14.
