Last Friday, Sam Fender dropped his triumphant second album, âSeventeen Going Underâ. Where his debut, âHypersonic Missilesâ, was him âpointing at stuff angrilyâ, as he put it to NME in a recent cover story, this album finds Fender humbled: âThe further Iâve gotten into my 20s, the more Iâve realised how little I know about anything. When you hit 25, youâre like: âIâm fucking clueless! I know nothing about the world.ââ
Fenderâs âSpit Of Youâ leads this weekâs additions to NME Radio, joining songs by Inhaler, Remi Wolf and Headie One, plus two glowing remixes: Lil Yachtyâs version of Tame Impalaâs âBreathe Deeperâ, and SZAâs rework of Kali Uchisâ âfue mejorâ. Get stuck in.
Check out whatâs new on NME 1 & 2 below.
On the A List
Sam Fender
âSpit Of Youâ
âSpit Of Youâ is one soul-baring song of many on Sam Fenderâs new album âSeventeen Going Underâ. Itâs about the North Shields singer-songwriterâs grandmotherâs death and his complex relationship with his father â as he explained in a statement: âwe both struggle as blokes to communicate the way we feel to each other without it becoming a stand-off.â Over poignant guitar strums and an atmospheric saxophone solo, Fender struggles to find a breakthrough in their relationship, but to no avail: âI can talk to anyone / I can’t talk to youâ. â Qistina Bumidin
