Oasis have topped the UK album chart with their reissue of ‘Definitely Maybe‘ – marking the first time the band have earned a number one in 14 years.

The 30th anniversary reissue of the Mancunian icons’ seminal debut album has earned the Number One spot with a 408 per cent week-on-week uplift (via Official Charts). The 1994 LP previously earned the top spot upon its original release. The reissue of ‘Definitely Maybe’ included the group’s originally discarded Monnow Valley sessions as well as outtakes from their Sawmills recordings and an alternative demo version of ‘Sad Song’.

Oasis have also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart with their reissue, with more than 50 per cent of its weekly total made from vinyl sales. According to the Official Record Store Chart, the ‘Definietly Maybe’ reissue has also become the most popular album in UK independent record shops over the past week.

The group’s 2009 compilation LP ‘Time Flies… (1994-2009)’ has also earned a spot on the charts, clocking in at Number Three as well as their 1995 LP ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ following closely behind at Number Four.

Elsewhere, the Gallagher brother’s 1995 hit single ‘Live Forever’ – which originally peaked at Number 10 upon its release – has climbed it’s way onto the charts, coming in at Number Eight with their 1996 song ‘Don’t Look Back In  Anger’ following closely behind at Number Nine marking the first time the track returns to the Top 10 in 28 years.

The two tracks also mark the first time Oasis have landed two singles within the Top 10 at the same time. Their classic hit ‘Wonderwall’ also made the cut coming in at Number 11.

Martin Talbot, the Chief Executive Officer of the Official Charts, took a moment to congratulate the band in a press release, sharing: “As if the huge demand for their tour dates wasn’t evidence enough, the enduring power of Oasis is underlined by the success of Definitely Maybe this week. Congratulations to Liam and Noel – topping the Official Charts together for the first time in 14 years.”

Andy Burnham – the Mayor of Greater Manchester – also added: “Congratulations to Oasis on ‘Definitely Maybe’ s return to Number One on the Official Albums Chart. Greater Manchester is in a different moment now with a thriving economy, and Oasis returning and playing shows in their home city will only boost this.

“Manchester often has a tendency to talk about its past glories, of which Oasis were very much a part, but I think this is a fantastic opportunity for a new generation of Greater Mancunians to celebrate some of its most famous sons.”

‌He continued: “I was delighted to hear the news of Liam and Noel getting back together to reform as I never actually got the chance to see them live. There has been a palpable buzz in Manchester since the news of Oasis reforming broke and it very much feels like the city is having another big moment.”

Liam and Noel Gallagher recently announced the reunion of the iconic band and shared that they will be going on a tour next year.

It was also recently announced that Handwritten ‘Wonderwall’ lyrics, Noel’s guitar and a golf buggy are among some of the items of Oasis memorabilia that will be going up for auction.

In other Oasis news, Liam Gallagher today (September 6) made his return to Twitter/X, and has already started to poke fun at the ticket scandal that surrounded the Oasis reunion, which is now subject to a CMA government enquiry.
