Teen drama One Tree Hill is set to return after 12 years with a Netflix sequel.

The original series ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012, first on WB and then the CW. The show followed the lives of teenagers in the fictional North Carolina town of Tree Hill and the drama that ensued as they came of age.

Now, a reboot is reportedly in the works, with stars Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Daneel Ackles set to reprise their roles and executive produce the series.

It’s still unclear if co-stars Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty – who played half-brothers in the original series – will also be making a return. Murray is currently reprising his role as Jake in the upcoming Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, alongside Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

According to reports from Vulture, the new Netflix series will take place 20 years after the show’s final episode and will follow the cast as adults raising teenagers of their own.

Bush, who played Brooke Davis in the original series, announced the news on Instagram on Friday (August 30), writing: “What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

She went on to say: “There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.””

Mark Schwahn, the original creator of the series, will not be involved in the reboot after 18 women accused him of sexual harassment in a 2017 report by Variety.

Burton and other members of the cast and crew have spoken about the alleged abuse on their podcast Drama Queens, saying they would only consider returning for a reboot if Schwahn was not involved.
