Oprah Winfrey has been admitted to hospital with a stomach virus, her friend Gayle King has revealed.
Earlier this week (June 11), Winfrey was absent from a scheduled appearance on CBS Mornings. King, who is also on CBS, revealed during the scheduled segment that Winfrey was unable to appear on the show due to a âseriousâ stomach bug.
King explained: âShe had some kind of stomach thing â stomach flu â stuff was coming out of both ends. I wonât get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV. It was a very serious thing.â
King went on to say Winfrey was going to ârallyâ from the stomach virus, but she needed time to rest in the interim.
âShe will be okay. I hope sheâs not mad at me for sharing that detail,â King added. âBut I wanted to make it clear, though, that it mattered to her and that it really bothered her that she couldnât be here for you today.â
In a statement shared to People, a spokesperson said Winfrey is now ârecoveringâ following the virus and that she âreceived an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor.â
They added: âShe is resting and feeling better every day.”
The news was also covered on the official Instagram account for Oprah Daily, which you can see above.
â@oprah was scheduled to go on @cbsmornings today to announce her latest @oprahsbookclub selection. When she came down with a stomach virus over the weekend, @gayleking â being the best friend she is â offered to make the announcement for her. We are happy to share that after receiving an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor, Oprah is feeling much better. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
Meanwhile last year, Winfrey praised BeyoncĂ©âs acclaimed âRenaissanceâ tour, describing it as âthe most extraordinary showâ she has seen.
The legendary host took to Instagram last August to share a review of the July 29 stop of BeyoncĂ©âs âRenaissanceâ tour in New Jerseyâs MetLife Stadium. In the video, Oprah said: âI have never in my life experienced anything like that. I couldnât speak, I couldnât scream, I was in awe. I am in awe of that kind of talent, that kind of synergy, what it takes to do that, that kind of expression, that kind of anointing.â
Oprah continued: âI mean that is a thing thatâs coming straight from a source that creates the planet. That is like the most extraordinary thing Iâve ever seen. The most extraordinary show Iâve ever seen.â
