Paul Gascoigne has told Noel Gallagher to “get a grip” over Phil Foden comments: “He’s not a Gazza!”

Foden has come to the end of his best season to date, and was recently named the Premier League’s Player of the Season after helping Manchester City retain the title for a record-breaking fourth year in a row. On Sunday (May 19), the England international scored two goals in City’s final day victory over West Ham.

Foden’s maverick playing style has often seen him compared to Gascoigne, who many regard to among England’s greatest-ever talents.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Oasis guitarist – an avowed City fan – said that he believes Foden will surpass Gascoigne. “I think he’s more dynamic, I think he’s quicker, and I think I will eventually be proved right,” Gallagher said.

He continued: “Maybe there’s not much between them now but five years from now, Phil Foden will be three times the player Gascoigne was.”

Now, Gascoigne has taken to his official X/Twitter page to respond to the ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ singer’s comments. “Noel, get a grip, you want to roll with it,” the former midfielder said in a video shared on social media.

“Foden, unbelievable player but not a Gazza. Don’t put the lad under pressure. Anyway Liam Gallagher is twice the singer you will ever be, so get a grip.”

Elsewhere, Gallagher recently revealed where his allegiances lie away from his hometown, saying that he is “not an England fan”.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after Sunday’s game, the Britpop legend shared: “I’m not an England fan, I’m Irish,” before saying “Good night!” and walking away.

This isn’t the first time that Noel Gallagher has made headlines for his support of Manchester City lately – just last week the singer, songwriter and guitarist defended not joining in with the Poznan at Man City’s match against Fulham, after his brother Liam called it “poor behaviour”.

At the away game on May 11, the team took home a 4-0 win, but unlike the huge sea of Man City fans surrounding him, Gallagher refused to join in with the Poznan (where supporters link arms, turn away from the pitch and begin bouncing).

“I have to say, in my defence, on Saturday I was still feeling the effects of a rather spectacular night out,” he said, supporting his reasoning after facing backlash from his sibling.

In other news, Gallagher recently revealed that he had “scrapped” his plans for an acoustic album, and said that he plans “to make a defiant rock record” instead.

More recently, he joined The Black Keys live on stage at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, after contributing to the duo’s latest album ‘Ohio Players’, and also created a playlist spanning Paul Weller’s entire career filled with “two hours of music, anecdotes, and impressions”.
