Normal People Paul Mescal Daisy Edgar-Jones

Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones have teased the potential return of Normal People.

The duo starred in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel in 2020, which went on to become the BBC iPlayer’s most popular series that year.

Now, Edgar-Jones has shared a photo on her Instagram story, hinting at a potential second season of Normal People.

“We’ve got some news to share!! Watch this place,” they wrote alongside the photo, which you can view below.

No further details about a potential second series have been released by Edgar-Jones or Mescal.

The 12-part series followed Connell Waldron (Mescal) and Marianne Sheridan (Edgar-Jones) as they fall in and out of each other’s lives from school into university and beyond.

They previously hinted at a potential second series shortly after the first series aired telling NME that things had been deliberately left open. “Series one is the book,” Mescal added. “But we don’t know what’s on the other side.”

Reviewing the show at the time, NME awarded it five stars and said it was “a heartfelt love story that deals in longing, introspection and awkward sex scenes.”

Meanwhile, Mescal is set to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator II later this year.

Footage showing Mescal as a gladiator fighting a rhinoceros was recently aired at the Las Vegas Cinema Con last month. It also included clips featuring Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal.

Mescal plays Lucius Verus, the nephew of the original film’s villain Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) but who grows up to idolise deceased gladiator Maximus (Russell Crowe).

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that Mescal may be set to play one of the Fab Four in Sam Mendes’ forthcoming Beatles biopic.

Announced back in February, Mendes will be directing four Beatles biopic projects – one told from the perspective of each band member.
