Over £1million worth of Pokemon cards were allegedly stolen, and the business owner is worried it could happen again.

As reported by Mail Online, Adrian Marsden, the director of Total Cards, claims one of his warehouses was broken into twice, June 14 and 28, 2023, and Pokemon cards worth over £1million were stolen. Marsden said, “I haven’t had a full night’s sleep since the incident. I constantly watch the CCTV from home after every shift to ensure this doesn’t happen again.” NME has reached out to Total Cards for comment.

On the morning of June 14, 2023, Marsden received a call from one of his employees stating they’d found a large hole in the side of the warehouse and that a lot of the inventory was disturbed or missing.

Marsden said: “It seemed to be a professional job,” following another raid just two weeks later where CCTV footage apparently showed a van that six people jumped out of to break into the warehouse again. One of them allegedly adjusted the position of the cameras.

Marsden then claimed: “I was fortunate enough for my insurance company to cover the inventory stolen, but I’ll never get back what we lost.” The insurance company, Allianz, estimated the worth of the apparently stolen goods to be over £1million. NME has reached out to Allianz for comment.

Pokemon cards have become a hot target for resellers, commonly refered to as scalpers due to the high prices they charge, in recent years. The cards have left their target demographic of children and become highly sought after collector’s items.

After eight months of police work investigating the incidents, the case has been closed without finding out who committed the alleged thefts. NME has reached out to Durham police for comment.
