It has been reported that Pulp are “back in the studio” after the band’s frontman Jarvis Cocker was spotted in Walthamstow.
Earlier today, Stella Creasy – the Walthamstow Labour and Coop MP – took her social media accounts to share a photo of Cocker that was lifted from the Walthamstow Residents News.
The image saw the singer in the London Borough wearing a bucket hat and carrying an orange Rough Trade tote bag while waving at the camera.
“Look who was in the stow yesterday… he said that they were back in the studio!” read the caption of the photo. The caption of Creasy’s post read: “Walthamstow at it again – yes we are having quite the moment aren’t we …. If you need a local guide @jarvisbransoncocker am available …
.”
The photo comes a few days after Pulp performed at Flow Festival 2024 where they debuted a new song titled ‘A Sunset’ which was co-written by Richard Hawley.
They performed on the main stage at the Helsinki event on Sunday (August 11). According to Setlist.FM, the moment saw Hawley join them for the rendition, and it arrived as the final track, following on from fan-favourite ‘Common People’.
Speaking to NME earlier this year, Cocker suggested the song could be officially released at some point, and confirmed Pulp’s touring plans would extend well into 2025.
Last November saw Pulp debut a new track called ‘Background Noise’ at a show in Mexico. It came after they performed an unreleased track titled ‘Hymn Of The North’ in Sheffield.
Speaking to NME last October, however, Pulp drummer Nick Banks downplayed the chances of Pulp releasing a new album soon, and said their reunion gigs were “more about getting the party back”.
“There have certainly been no conversations about new material and to be honest,” he explained. “I’m not sure if any of us have a real appetite for that because you have to put three to five years of your life into it.
“In terms of writing, recording then touring, it would be really difficult. I can’t see it happening myself – we’ve got other things to do.”
In other Pulp news, the band recently played ‘Bar Italia’ for the first time in 12 years, and Cocker teamed up with The Jesus & Mary Chain for a performance of ‘Just Like Honey’ during their performance at the Medimex festival.
