Netflix has announced that Rebecca Ferguson has joined the cast of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie.

The streaming platform shared the news on its official social media channels on Thursday (July 25). It’s not yet known which role the Dune actress will be playing.

The hit BBC period crime drama, which starred Oscar winner Cillian Murphy as gangster and businessman Tommy Shelby, concluded in 2022 after six seasons. Its creator, Steven Knight, has since announced his plans to wrap up the story with a feature-length film, rather than a seventh season.

Although the full cast for forthcoming movie has not yet been announced, Knight has previously confirmed that Murphy will be reprising his lead role. Tom Hardy, who played Camden Town gang leader Alfie Solomons in the series, has also teased his involvement in the film.

Netflix officially announced the Peaky Blinders movie in a post on X/Twitter in June.

“Thomas Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix,” the streamer shared alongside a photo of the movie’s script.

The currently untitled movie has been written by Knight and will be helmed by Tom Harper, who directed several episodes of the show’s first season.

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy told Deadline earlier this month. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

The Irish actor’s return to the franchise was originally confirmed by Knight in March. “Murphy is definitely returning for [the movie],” he said at the premiere of his BBC drama, The Town. “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”

While plot details have yet to be announced, Knight previously revealed that the movie is set during World War II. He added about the film: “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

An official release date for the film is yet to be confirmed, but Knight previously told NME that production will begin in September.
