Remy Ma has opened up about her son being arrested and charged for the first-degree murder of a 47-year-old.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the Bronx rap icon’s son – 23-year-old JaySon Scott was arrested on Tuesday (June 18) for the June 2021 murder of Darius Guillebeaux in Queens, New York.

According to the New York Police Department, Scott and 22-year-old Richard Swygert allegedly shot Guillebeaux to death. On June 7, 2021, Guillebeaux was found before 1pm with various gunshot wounds to the head and the chest. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Scott was also charged with second-degree murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment. Swygert only faces one murder charge (per ABC 7 Chicago). Dawn Florio, Remy’s lawyer is currently representing Scott.

According to the New York Post, at the time of his death, Guillebeaux was under indictment in a drug-trafficking probe. The police believe that the alleged shooting may have occurred following a dispute.

Now, Remy Ma has shared a statement to TMZ regarding the arrest of her son. “We stand by JaySon’s innocence and pray that the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and me. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we kindly ask for privacy as our legal team works to prove JaySon’s innocence…”

She continued: “As his mother, I want to address this situation personally but have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything — as most people in similar situations are informed by their attorneys due to it being an active case.”

The rapper is no stranger to getting caught up with the law as back in 2007, she served a six-year prison sentence following a shooting outside a nightclub in Manhattan.
