Fender recently told NME that he believes his upcoming new record is āmiles betterā than his debut.
The singer was speaking to NMEĀ after he played one of the UKās first major socially distanced gigs at the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle in August.
Asked aboutĀ the current progress of the follow-up to 2019ās āHypersonic Missilesā, Fender toldĀ NMEĀ that āitās a much more cohesive piece of workā so far.
āFor me, this feels like my first album. [āHypersonic Missilesā] was a collection of songs over five years, so itās not sonically cohesive for me,ā he explained. āIt has songs like āThe Bordersā and āTwo Peopleā that I love and Iām proud of, but the record itself felt more like a āGreatest Hitsā before Iād even had any hits!”
Reviewing ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ upon its release, NME wrote: “āHypersonic Missilesā mostly hits the notes he longs to convey: itās by turns euphoric and melancholy, self-deprecating and righteous, untethered and claustrophobic. There are no easy answers here, but Sam Fenderās asking the right questions.”
