Jay-Z and Nas‘ scrapped collab song from the ’90s has now gotten an official release through the re-release of Shaquille O’Neal’s third album.

The former NBA star’s third studio album – 1996’s ‘You Can’t Stop the Reign’ – has now been made available to stream on streaming platforms. The LP features the track ‘No Love Lost’ which includes the likes of the two rappers alongside fellow NYC MC Lord Tariq. The song marked the first-ever collaboration between the two.

The streaming version of ‘No Love Lost’ also marks the first time fans are able to hear the original track as it was intended. Upon it’s release back in the 90s, the song dealt with a clearance issue and ultimately halted the possibility of hearing the track with both Jay-Z and Nas on it. According to Consequence Of Sound, Nas didn’t clear his verse for the album’s 1996 release.

While appearing as a guest on Drink Champs back in 2022, Shaq opened up about recording ‘No Love Lost’ and explained how grateful he was for the creation of the track.

“People didn’t clear it,” Shaq said. “I didn’t take it personal because, again, me being in the studio with Nas, I’m happy. … That’s what it’s all about.”

In other news, it was announced that Nas is set to adapt the classic hip-hop film Beat Street into a new musical for Broadway, alongside the producer of the original film Arthur Baker.

He will be creating new material for the show based on the film’s soundtrack and will serve as producer. Baker, who was a co-producer, composer and music producer on the original film, will also produce the musical.

Last month, Nas was also a name that was suggested as an option to receive Diddy’s honorary key to New York City, in the event that Diddy’s honour is rescinded.

Elsewhere, Jay-Z recently made a surprise appearance during Alicia Keys‘ performance at the 2024 Tony Awards on June 16.
