Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has spoken about the importance of his father’s music, and his parents’ relationship – see what Sean had to say below.
Sean Lennon spoke to The Times about the recent ‘Ultimate Mix’ release of his father’s fourth solo album ‘Mind Games’, which was shared earlier this month. The album was released with several different mixes, culminating with the ‘Ultimate Mix’.
Speaking to The Times, Lennon explained that the numerous mixes served as a way for his father’s solo music outside of The Beatles to continue getting the “attention” it deserves: “One thing that distinguishes my dad’s solo career is how personal his lyrics became. It is like a diary, and it is my duty to bring attention to my father’s music. Not just my duty to him, but a duty to the world.”
Sean Ono continued: “With the world as it is now, people have forgotten so many things that I never imagined could be forgotten. I refuse to let that happen to this music — it means too much to me.”
His comments come less than a month after a new music video for John’s ‘Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)’ featuring intimate home video footage shot by the musician himself was released. The video depicts John and Yoko Ono as they live their lives in a New York apartment.
In the same chat with The Times, Sean Ono also spoke of his his parents’ relationship, stating: “Their story is a love story. They found each other across a great divide and certainly struggled through ups and downs, but never doubted their love. It is important we remember them as an example. Even through rough patches, you can see my father thought about my mother. They were simply, irrevocably intertwined.”
In other news, Travis recently revealed that the piano used on the single ‘Gaslight’ was the same that The Beatles used on ‘Lady Madonna’.
Elsewhere, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler recently opened up about the influence of The Beatles on his career, sharing “They were a massive influence, because there was nobody else like them at the time.”
