Bloober Team and Konami have finally confirmed the release date for the Silent Hill 2 Remake.
After years of speculation, it was confirmed that Bloober Team were working on a remake of Silent Hill 2 in 2022. After countless updates, it has finally been announced that the game will be released October 8 via PS5 and PC.
The news was shared as part of Sony’s State Of Play presentation.
“Since our first announcement in 2022, we have been met with passionate expectations from fans across the globe. In order to meet such high expectations, we have taken ample polishing time and carefully decided on when we would be able to deliver the game with confidence. This game is at its best, a remake with respect toward the original,” explained a blog post from Sony.

Elsewhere in the post, Bloober Team Creative Director Mateusz Lenart listed some of the changes between the original and the remake, and what has remained the same.
The narrative of the original Silent Hill 2 will remain intact, though some events might take place at different locations, while James and Maria remain at the “heart” of the remake, even if Bloober have used new voice actors for the characters. “Relying solely on preexisting dialogue would’ve been limiting and would mean that many gameplay improvements, such as player guidance, could not be introduced,” Lenart explained.
Developers have also introduced new combat mechanics for both James and the various Silent Hill 2 enemies while puzzles have been “slightly altered to present a new spin on their original designs, but still maintain their eerie connection to the game’s overall theme and narrative”.
Fans were also treated to a 13-minute gameplay video that takes place in the streets of Silent Hill and the dilapidated Brookhaven Hospital, while a new trailer includes scenes with Angela and the Otherworld.

Previously, Bloober said it only wanted to make “very safe” changes to Silent Hill 2 . “We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernised Silent Hill 2,” explained chief marketing officer Anna Jasińska. “Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us ‘missing the point’ while we’re livening up the title. We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up.”
Pre-orders for Silent Hill 2 are now live, with deluxe and standard editions of the game available.
In other news, the long-awaited relaunch of MultiVersus has attracted a peak of 114,515 concurrent players on Steam, but fans aren’t happy with all the changes.
