Simon Gallup has seemingly confirmed that he has re-joined The Cure.
Back in August, bassist Gallup said he left the band âwith a slightly heavy heart,â writing that heâs âfed up of betrayal.â
Gallup joined the band in 1979 following a stint playing in Robert Smith’s side-project Cult Hero. After leaving the band in 1982, he rejoined in 1984, and is The Cureâs second longest-serving member behind Smith.
âWith a slightly heavy heart I am no longer a member of the Cure!â Gallup wrote in a public post on his personal Facebook account last night (August 14). âGood luck to them all âŚâ
However, now, in a new social media post, Gallup has seemingly confirmed he’s back in the band. Replying to a fan who asked ‘Is Simon still a member of The Cure?’, Gallup said: “Yes I am”. NME has reached out to representatives of The Cure and Gallup for comment.

In a 2018 with The Irish Times, Robert Smith said that if Gallup were to leave the band, then âit wouldnât be called The Cure.â
Speaking to NME in a Big Read cover feature in 2019, Smith added that he and Simonâs relationship is âwithout questionâ the most dangerous combination within The Cure.
âFor me, the heart of the live band has always been Simon, and heâs always been my best friend,â Smith said. âItâs weird that over the years and the decades heâs often been overlooked. He doesnât do interviews, he isnât really out there and he doesnât play the role of a foil to me in public, and yet heâs absolutely vital to what we do.
âWeâve had some difficult periods over the years but weâve managed to maintain a very strong friendship that grew out of that shared experience from when we were teens. When you have friends like that, particularly for that long, it would take something really extraordinary for that friendship to break.
He added: âYouâve done so much together, youâve so much shared experience, you just donât want to lose friends like that.â
Elsewhere, Smith said he believes that The Cureâs next album will be their last. âI canât think weâll ever do anything else,â he told The Sunday Times. âI definitely canât do this again.â
