Slipknot‘s Clown has shared details of his worst ever on-stage injury.
The founding member and percussionist (real name Shawn Crahan) was recently interviewed by Vulture, where he opened up about the grisliest injury he suffered on stage.
Though Crahan admitted he’s had “a lot” of injuries, “the one that’s really done me in was when I ripped my bicep in half on stage by hitting a keg with a bat.”
“If you know anything about a bicep, it’s basically two wires, one on each side that holds the muscle in place — kind of like rubber bands that connect up by your shoulder,” he explained. “I ripped both those fuckers. So my bicep was actually on my forearm. Like, it just dropped down and my skin fell down with it.
“People would vomit when they saw it.”
Crahan went on to say that he eventually had surgery, where he lost “25 per cent of that arm.
“I’ll go to grab something on the top shelf in the fridge, think I’ve got it, and then whatever it is will just fall. It hurts,” he continued. “I have swelling on my right side where this dissolvable screw was. Out of all the injuries, that one really is a daily reminder.”
In 2021, it was reported that Clown had torn his bicep tendon during the band’s Los Angeles performance at their annual Knotfest festival.
Clown has previously opened up about gory injuries to NME in 2020, where he admitted: “I don’t like the blood much any more. There really was a lot and it kind of made me sick. It has different effects on me these days.”
Slipknot recently announced their 2025 European tour, where the band will kick off at Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden on June 4. From there, Corey Taylor and co will journey through Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark and more, rounding off their tour at Barcelona’s Rock Fest and Viveiro Ressurectionfest.

“It’s definitely arriving next year,” he said. “You have my word. The art’s been done. It’s been mixed. It’s been mastered. It is definitely coming out in 2024 and it’s such a great album. Corey is my favourite singer ever, and you’ll never hear him sing in the same way as on this album, so it’s been worth holding it back. It’s such a different, timeless project.”
In the same interview, he shared that a new album was “happening, but that’s another plan.” “These live dates are coming first and we’re here to have a good time,” he added. “This band has never been happier, and that takes a lot because we’ve been through a lot — drugs, women, money, fame, ego, isolation. But we are on track.”
