GSC Game World has announced it is pushing back the release of Stalker 2: Heart Of Chornobyl.
Stalker 2: Heart Of Chornobyl has faced a number of challenges throughout development. The post-apocalyptic horror shooter was originally announced in 2010 with a 2012 release date, but the dissolution of developer GSC Game World meant that the game was cancelled the same year.
GSC reformed in 2014, with work starting up again on Stalker 2 in 2018. Since then, the Ukraine-based developer has had to contend with the ongoing conflict with Russia while a fire broke out in their Prague offices earlier this year, causing over £50,000 worth of damage.
Stalker 2: Heart Of Chornobyl had been due for release in Q1 of 2024, but was delayed in January and given a new release date of September 5, 2024. The company has now confirmed the launch of Stalker 2 is being pushed back by eleven weeks.
“We know you might be tired of waiting and we truly appreciate your patience,” said the team in a statement. “These two additional months will give us the chance to fix more ‘unexpected anomalies’ (or simply ‘bugs’, as you call them). We are always grateful for your ongoing support and understanding – it means the world to us. We’re just as eager as you are to finally release the game and for you to experience it for yourself.”

Stalker 2 will now launch November 20 for Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Game Pass.
Developers have also promised a special Stalker 2 Developer Deep Dive on August 12. The video will feature interviews and a “lots of new footage” including quest walkthroughs, gameplay, and cutscenes.
After a preview last year, NME wrote: “From our half-hour, it’s clear that Stalker 2 has all of the grit, atmosphere and brutality that Stalker fans expect. While the English voice acting leaves a lot to be desired and the build we play still struggles with bugs, we’re optimistic that the game – now delayed to 2024 – will get more than Geiger counters buzzing at launch.
In other news, the team behind Fallout: London have finally released the full conversion mod for Fallout 4 after a hefty delay.
