âPut me in a room with anyone and I will convert them all [to our music],â STONE frontman Finlay Power once told NME. Previously, he was tasked with winning over audiences yet to know their name â the Liverpool rock band have already supported the likes of Sam Fender and Yungblud, titans who recognised the four-pieceâs energy while they were still unsigned.
Tonight, Power doesnât need to convert anyone. This sold-out gig at Newcastleâs Cluny venue is part of STONEâs first headline tour, and the opening battle cry of âI Let Goâ proves every thrashing head in the audience came fully devoted to the bandâs breakneck sound. High-tempo bangers âKeep Runningâ and âFuseâ rally the crowd to a frenzied state, while new single âLeft Right Forwardâ â which only released last week â already proves to be a winner.
Excitement ripples through the crowd as STONE wheel out three unreleased tracks. âIf You Wannaâ and âI Got A Feelingâ offer more of the hook-heavy rock weâve previously seen from the band, and in addition to âSave Yourselfââs stripped-back vulnerability, it all suggests last yearâs âPunkadonkâ EP was an exciting warm-up for whatâs to come.
When fan favourite âLetâs Dance To The Real Thingâ brings everything back to familiar territory, Power dares the audience to âkick offâ â and he can barely be heard over the crowd as they roar back every lyric. âMoney (Hope Ainât Gone)â gets similar treatment, while the searing guitar solo in âStupidâ sends mosh pits whirling through The Cluny. Yet itâs the blistering salvo of âWasteâ that gets the wildest response, which culminates in a snarling Power leaping into the crowd before him.

The energy carries through to a bouncy ‘Motoâ, and by the time the track wraps up, Power is visibly emotional â he admits this is the first gig he’s been able to see fans singing his own lyrics back to him. âThis is beautiful, I fucking love your city,â he says, beaming.
Before STONE close out the night with âLeave It Outâ, Power says the band have waited âtheir whole fucking life for thisâ. Perhaps Power is talking about the bigger picture â the momentum that has swiftly carried STONE from massive support slots to headlining their own shows â but you could easily believe heâs waited his whole life for this night in The Cluny.
